Modeling Tip—Cheek Bones!

Cheek bones are an aesthetic for what a lot of people strive for in general. Take the beauty community for example, a cornerstone of where contouring goes is along the cheekbone.

As fas as the modeling industry, they are seen as an artistic interpretation of the sheer and undeniable beauty that can befall the human facial structure.

Today, I want to give one of my ultimate tips I use during photoshoots to bring out the definition of my cheek bones to their fullest potential.

1. Relaxed ’Tongue in Cheek’ Method

Honestly, it was hard to figure out a name to describe the method in which I do this because it is almost hard to describe it in words vs. showing it to you through video tutorial.

*(which is something I actually might do in the future to show you a live demonstration of this technique!!!)

However, since we are talking about it, I am going to try the best I can to give you as much detail as possible!

You know how you can “suck your cheeks in” or do the “fishy face with your lips which at the same time pulls in the skin around your cheeks? Well, this kinda goes off of that idea but a relaxed version where you can’t even tell you are doing all that—but you are.

(When applying contour to your cheeks for makeup, you naturally make a face to pull out the structure of your cheek when blending it to create more depth to the contouring)

What I like to do is to pull my cheeks in by using suction from my tongue against the front part of my mouth/cheeks—all the while, making sure your mouth is completely relaxed and “open” (meaning there is spacing between your lips).

Having the space between your lips is so important for this technique, otherwise if it were closed it might even look like you are specifically sucking your cheeks in…which is exactly what you don’t want.

You want to have it look as relaxed as possible at the same time as you are applying the method to pulling your cheeks in.

Now, if you are confused about how to do my technique, here is an exercise to try on your own! Stick your tongue out of your mouth with your lips closed around it the entire time, then “slurp” (I guess is the word haha…like a noodle) your tongue back into your mouth!

Notice how when you do this, you are sucking your cheeks in as your tongue gets back inside the mouth! Now, once it is inside, hold it in that position and relax your mouth and lips (while still keep your cheeks sucked by your tongue).

There ya go! I would recommend practicing in a mirror as well as a place with harsh lighting and shadows, that way you can see how effective it is working for you!

BONUS TIP: This tip is something I add on top of the other tip which just completes the entirety of making your cheek bones as defined as possible!

1. Flex Your Jaw!

When you flex your jaw, it widens! By widening your jaw at the same time of pulling in your cheeks using your tongue, it stretches out the surface area for your skin; thus, tightening your bone structure for both your cheeks and jawline!

Positive Thought—Fear can sometimes creep up on us and control us without us even knowing that we are being controlled by the presence of fear in our lives. That is why it is so important to take what I like to call “personal inventory days.”

These are days where we personally set aside time to take notice of how we are feeling internally and externally. When we do this, we are allowing ourselves to be more cognizant of what is either helping us at the moment or preventing us from moving forward towards bigger and better things.

Our fears and insecurities often play a huge role in us even attempting to go for our dreams and make all of what we wish for in life come true!

Overcoming those fears requires determination, strength, courage, and persistence. Applying each one of these character traits to our daily lives allows us to carry on through those times where we fear might fail, or fear we might not measure up to something, or fear our insecurities might show.

Try being Determined today to take on the projects you have or have always been wanting to do!

Try having the Strength to continue through your journey of life each day.

Try be Courageous enough to face your fears and struggles head on!

Last of all, Try to be persistent to continue fighting for what you know you want in this world!
